The yoga causes us to let go of tensions, both physical and mental. Pilates gives us the strength and stability to keep this. This means that we get a well-balanced body when we practice both yoga and pilates – the combination is cruel. For me, yoga is an unbeatable addition to my pilate training and pilates the same for yoga. Here I share with me what the pilate training can do for you in your yoga training.
Therefore, yoga and pilates are a good combination
In yoga, I have to be free in the mind, experiment with the body and I love that yoga is so permissive – nothing is right or wrong. There I find my focus for life, become calm and gather new mental power and energy.
The Pilates on the other hand gives me a strong and well-placed body. I love the feeling of having a proud attitude where everything is just in the right place. I feel soft and supple when I exercise and it is a great security to know that the body always has the ability to carry me, that it is painless and that I can trust it to hold when I want to go outside the safety zone in my training.
I really feel not the body when I exercise a lot of pilates – and I mean that in a positive way, I am only in my body, without knowing any limitations. It’s amazing and something I haven’t found in any other form of training!

Functional and effective training
To link the pilate training with the physical part of the yoga, we should go to the five basic principles that form the basis of the pilate training. We see the basic principles as five tools to get the most out of the training and keep the body’s joints in a neutral position.
The reason why well-trained pilates instructors are so careful about how to position the body when exercising is that if all joints are in their perfect neutral position then the muscles around the joint can work functionally. This leads to the exercises being as effective as possible and it also results in faster results and a safer training.

- Breath
- The pelvis’s placement
- The placement of the chest

All basic principles should be performed together to achieve the best results. The basic principles are something that one can use in all training and they are very good to sit back on in yoga. If you have been training pilates for a while, then in most cases you follow the pilate technique even when practicing yoga, which means that you can choose to focus more on the mental aspect of all the asanas and by that discover that you can do much more than before and become more sustainable.

- You become aware of your imbalances in your body and get to know which one is your own posture type. Based on this knowledge, the yoga is trained to be able to practice yoga with as good a posture as possible.
- Pilates strengthens the body and through the newly acquired strength you can manage and control your mobility that comes from yoga.
- You get a better position in the yoga positions, which in turn leads to you being able to keep the positions correctly longer, that is, you get an improved endurance strength. A better posture and improved endurance, in turn, leads to a better breathing. This is due to the extension being extended and the transition between exhalation and exhalation becomes softer since you do not have to strain yourself so much.
- You can take advantage of all the benefits from the yoga practice better, both physically and mentally. The effects of breathing go deeper and the body does not provide the same resistance and it becomes easier to maintain focus in both asanas, pranayama and meditation.
- Pilates adds the knowledge of how small differences in body placement and technology provide an active body with no unnecessary tension. The stabilisation training in the pilate technique makes you stronger and gets better control of the body and can deepen the yoga positions without harming you.
